Coppélia • Meadow
Spring Concert 2024
April 27 at 1:00pm & 5:00pm
April 28 at 1:00pm
Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center
Montgomery College, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville
This April, join Maryland Youth Ballet for an exciting Spring Concert of Classical and Contemporary Ballet.
Coppélia
Dr. Coppélius, the village’s eccentric inventor, fabricates a life-sized doll he names Coppélia, with such humanistic precision and beauty that it misleads the entire town into believing that Coppélia is a real girl. What ensues is a fantastical turn of events: Franz, the boyfriend of Swanhilda, becomes enamored by Coppélia’s beauty and Swanilda is filled with envy as she perceives her place as the reigning village belle is being threatened. A serendipitous turn of events unravels the tangled web around Coppélia and the villagers rejoice with the wedding of Swanhilda and Franz.
Meadow
Meadow, choreographed by Eric Hampton, evokes rich visages of a golden meadow and the endearing charm of folklife. Hampton, MYB’s beloved choreographer in residence in the 1990’s, used Joseph Canteloube’s exhilarating ‘Songs of the Auvergne’ in this deeply resonate ballet. This is the 5th re-staging of ‘Meadow’ on MYB’s advanced students. Past performers have spoken of this work as a defining opportunity for them in their development as artists.
