Maryland Youth Ballet is excited and honored to partner with the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company (DTSBDC). This relationship will be based around space sharing, educational opportunities for young dancers, and more importantly, centered on enhancing the diversity of the MYB community.

Through DTSBDC’s unique repertory and its culturally diverse dancers, DTSBDC performs contemporary dance works that explore the idea of cultural and artistic confluence. The company’s repertory focuses on the “hyphenated” person in America – those of mixed ethnic and/or cultural heritage – and their struggles to belong in a large society.

For over 50 years, MYB has been successfully preparing young dancers for a career in the performing arts as well as providing classes to dancers of all ages and levels, and by presenting professional quality, yet accessible, award-winning ballet performances, for the entire DC region since 1971. DTSBDC, currently in its 30th Anniversary Season, will provide additional education resources to MYB students including contemporary master classes, postsecondary preparation seminars, and dance history lessons. Additionally, MYB will be a new source of dancers to join the company as apprentices and understudies, allowing students to experience firsthand the inner workings of a professional dance company. Furthermore, DTSBDC will set accessible choreography on MYB’s Studio Company that will illuminate and celebrate diversity in order to encourage a just world for all.
